I had the privilege of contributing to the design of the poster and other promotional materials for the play “Salome”, directed by Juan Fischer. Inspired by Oscar Wilde’s play, this theatrical production captures the essence of the biblical story in a unique and captivating way. My goal was to reflect this spirit in the graphic design, working closely with the creative team to visually convey the atmosphere and message of the play.
‘‘All the refinement, the cruelty, the cursing and the orientalism of decadent literature are present in this brief drama in symbolism, equally (or more) powerful in the reading as in the theatrical representation. No matter that the plot has been used many times – this drama owes a special debt to Flaubert’s Herodias – brilliantly; the moment when the Baptist’s head appears on the tray is so strong that we will always remember with horror the kisses that, in Wilde’s version, Salome passionately gives to the dead man (“I have kissed your mouth, Jokanaan. I have kissed your mouth.”)‘
